Hi all,

I'm curious why there is a "chess university" advertisement now appearing on the chess.com main page. My understanding was that ads are supposed to be blocked for chess.com members.

Every once in a while I've seen chess.com paid members complain of ads showing up on the main page that actually aren't ads at all, but chess.com announcements about sponsored tournaments or something else chess.com related.

Is "Chess University" now an offshoot of chess.com? Is that why it's there? Or did they just pay an amount "too good to refuse" to chess.com in order to be allowed to spam paid members? Or....?

-Peter

It's just a chess.com ad. You can close the ad by clicking the x on the right of the "ad".

The no advertisements doesn't apply to the home page and chess related ads.

I guess that's what I'm asking: has chess.com and "chess university" had some sort of merger, because I didn't realize those two were directly related.

ok, it's just odd because I've never seen chess-related but at the same time non-chess.com "ads" before on the front page of the website. it seems like a new thing. I guess y'all need to get revenue however you can, it just seemed like a new thing -- so much so I was wondering if chess.com had acquired "chess university" or something along those lines. that's all.

Martin_Stahl

I don't believe most of them are revenue generating, but I could be wrong. The site has posted event sponsors, products they own (like Dr Wolf), and partnerships (which I think Chess University is in some manner).

plux

Right, it's been for chess.com products in recent memory: Dr Wolff, ads for tournament coverage etc. Was wondering if there was some new partnership.

Martin_Stahl

Chess University started in partnership with the site, based on my recollection and I assume some kind of partnership still exists.
