Disrespect of famous legend Gata Kamsky VS some prick

Maybe they didn’t know you liked Gata so much. Did you clearly communicate your feelings?

Good point. Should have send a delegation and hired skywriters. Small price to pay. Maybe in 2022 when they are considering Hao Wang’s challengers.

He doesn't meet the Wildcard Eligibility Criteria.

"One wild card was selected by the organizer. This player must have participated in at least two of the three qualifying tournaments (World Cup, Grand Swiss and Grand Prix) and also must have met one of the following conditions: highest non-qualifier in the World Cup and also in the final 4 of the World Cup; highest non-qualifier in the Grand Swiss or Grand Prix; or in the top 10 by average rating from February 2019 to January 2020."

Only Vachier-Lagrave, Alexeenko, Mamedyarov and Aronian met the criteria. Kamsky was 63rd in the world rating list, not 10th.

They should make an exception for famous legends, I'm sorry.

Malishious

Should they have made an exception for Paul Morphy as well? Prop up the ol' boy up in a corner somewhere idk

I know he's dead but at least he will go for the win

I think the guy who create this topic is probably trolling, but I want to use this opportunity to say that I'm pretty happy for FIDE's choice. I was quite sure that they will choose MVL, and the candidates tournament would be a bunch of draws again. But happily, they choose Alekseenko, that plays a little more aggressive chess.  I mean, it might be a bunch of draws again, with one or another decisive games. And, although (At least in my view) Caruana and Ding Liren are probably the favorites, I think the random prick is the guy who has more chances to play more interesting games on the tournament.

I'm really looking forward on his game against Grischuk on the first round.

Thanatos007

Profanities and trolling aside, Alekseenko isn't a bad choice in one way since he will provide a target for the others and ensure more decisive games.  At least his games will be worth following whereas most of the other games will be boring high level take-no-chances draws.  I'd rather see Anish Giri out and Topalov or Shirov in. Too bad Kramnik quit just as his games were getting fun to watch.

PoisedScent

Yeah, I didn't thought about that. The fact that Alekseenko is the lower rated of the player that will play might force other player to be play more aggressive towards him, because they would not want to draw a player that is barely 2700. They ratings will go down.

The reason that I want to see his game with Grischuk on the first round, is that Alekseenko will play black, and throughout his career he (Alekseenko) played a lot of sharp Sicilians, and the Sicilian is also the opening that Grischuk played more often on his career. So I'm really hoping that this game could be a Richter-Rauzer, or other sharp variation with kings castled in opposite sides.

I just hope that Alekseenko play the way he always played on his career, and don't try to play drawing lines since he is by fat the lowest rated player.

Alekseenko sounds decent , not quite a smart alek or a pr*ck.

Alekseenko (spelling?) wasn't top 10 though. I thought that was part of the criteria to qualify. He's like 35th or so.

The criteria are:

Must have participated in at least two of (World Cup / Grand Swiss / Grand Prix)

AND

ONE OF THE FOLLOWING (A, B, C OR D):

A) Highest non-qualifier in the World Cup AND top four in the World Cup

B) Highest non-qualifier in the Grand Swiss

C) Highest non-qualifier in the Grand Prix

D) Top 10 in the rating list.

Yeah, I don't think he is nowhere near the favorites, and he probably was choosen just because he was the only russian player eligible (Like Kramnik on the last tournament) but, considering the recent historic of games of the player on that tournament, he is the one who plays the sharpests ones. And again, although I admit that Caruana and Ding Liren are clearly the favorites, I do think Alekseenko will be the most interesting to watch.

blueemu

He should produce some entertaining games, agreed.

Laskersnephew

Gata Kamsky was a great player, but he really hasn't been active at the highest level for several years now. It's no disrespect not to automatically seed him into the Candidates. This is how life works

That's harsh. I would go with the more charitable "joking". Gata recently rage quit saying "I'm a famous f***ing legend and some prick [is flagging me]." So just playing off that.

Bad joke Troll. Or does it? surprise.pngsurprise.pngsurprise.png

Well played, sir,

The guy got a point though. Just because the Morphy is dead he cannot play for the world championship? What kind of argument is that? FIDE is being pretty luddite about this!

No, I just didn't get the joke, and I thought you were trolling. Now with the context the joke makes sense and is quite funny.

Where Gata said that though?
