Overall speed is less important than lag. There are some things that can be done on your end to mitigate things, but with the current worldwide situation and overall increases in internet traffic everywhere, there is only so much that can be done.

chess games use almosft no data. all you are sending is yoir moves wich are basicaly less than 1 kb.
