How to get better at OTB chess

When I found someone to play with and began playing over the board I almost had a panic attack because my mind wasn't seeing something I'd never miss on the digital screen. What I think helped is just playing more casual games with someone who is your non-competitive friend or perhaps simply read the records of game and move the pieces over the board as you read the moves. There is just no other way.
Another minor hint is to maybe stand up or move yourself to give you a higher longer distance from the board you can see all of it without moving your eyes from corner to corner to look at the pieces. The angle of eye movement should be smaller and closer to that you're used to on computer screens. When you're close to the board the able is wide and you have to either move your eyes a lot or move your head.

Hmm, interesting. This may not pertain to you per say, but maybe someone else that may have a similar issue, as you. Yes I would agree try playing more OTB games, or at least practice positions on the board. It seems it maybe a mental block. Perhaps the pieces, or your perception. Do you have vision problems ?
It also maybe some form of social anxiety you have. You may feel uncomfortable playing an actual person face to face so to speak. To remedy that, you need to actually play more OTB to overcome it. Try to remain calm, If your anxious, take 3 deep breathes, and exhale slowly, its helpful, and make sure your comfortable. Drink a soothing beverage, I like tea, or coffee. Listen to classical music, or drink a glass of wine, (If old enough) relax, and enjoy it. Its just a game. Good luck.
Some people have the opposite promlem. It all depends on which one you play more (OTB or Online). From a 3D or 2D perspective. The solution is to practice OTB or Online and adjust to the perspective.
