Just watching the Zurich tourney... Leko is amazing.. he makes the other 2 guys look like amateurs and explains his ideas beautifully. He gives you an eagle eyes view of how you should be thinking.
Why isnt some top level GM whos not playing in the tourney always a commentator??
Why do they usually put IM chumps that dont know what they are talking about and go on about trivia and how Ivanchuk likes his toast etc??
Because is cheaper the way they do it now.
I was bored watching the WCC games because the commentators were more about chit chat than serious discussion in my opinion. I realise they need to fill time between moves (which obviously take a long time), but they should be better prepared and perhaps interject things like going over past games that are similiar to the ones they are watching, etc., instead of commenting over and over that so-and-so is still in the relaxation room while he awaits his opponent's move, or yes, talking about food.

Yes, chump sounds extreme.

Duck pate?
Of course he does it on purpose, but its just a subconscious thing. Just listen on how he talks about finding draws, it's like that is part of the game he enjoys most.
But I love his commentary, he shows even some chess humor.
You're a bit harsh with IM commentators, but it's true Leko is on another level and his comments are fabulous.
