Opening database usage - diamond
What do you think the Grandmasters do? Pick an opening that they know their opponent is familiar with?
You misunderstand the question. A grandmaster is not allowed to look at a database of his opponent's games while the current game is ongoing (duh!). Before the game, yes, the GM can do as much prep as he/she wants.
Imagine the day arrives when its possible to have a computer implant put into your brain which enhances your memory way beyond normal human scope. Many will have this done to outshine their rivals. It may eventually be conceivable to implant a computer to play for you completely hidden and undetectable. Fantastic technologies are on there way and no doubt they will be used to gain status. The day may well arrive ( I shall not see it) when we will not know what our fellow human has at his/ her disposal.
I'm pretty sure all of the same data is also available to non-premium members, they just don't have the nice, easy to use presentation of that information available to them.
Rest assured, though, if someone wanted to download all of your PGNs and load them into their own DB it would be entirely possible (albeit cumbersome) regardless of membership status.

In this technological environment it follows that it will also be possible to put an implant into someone's brain that will be able to detect whether they are using a computer chip to make decisions as opposed to their native brain.
Therefore the technology you eschew as making it possible for people to use "artificial means" (aka "engines") will actually make it much more difficult (in cases where it is against the rules).

I believe non-premium membership can only go back 30 days on your PGN history. Unless i misssed some buttons somehwere...

On your own, yes I'm pretty sure there were limitations. Does this also apply to the PGNs of other players here?

I think some people are already doing such things...I think it's completely unfair. what it means essentially is if a person happens to born into wealth or happens to come upon a shit ton of money, they can give themselves super powers. kind of think its the equivalent of steroid use in physical sports, kind of like a baseball player getting some kind of super powerful cyborg arm that can pitch a ball at 500 miles per hour.
Really...?
