I went to the comments, argument used against it is not fysicial. But it is.... When not good in shape you will not be winning. Every champion, how well in shape, he or she is, will win it in mental aspects, thats why chess must be at olympics?
Why is chess not at the olympics?

Some want to call chess a sport? Go ahead.
Some want to say its not a sport? That's fine too.
No matter what of the fence you're on. You're offering your opinion, so dont lose it if someone disagrees with you.
My opinion? Chess is a game, not a sport. And yes I know Karpov lost 40lbs. during his first match with Kasparov, but losing weight doesn't make something a sport. if it did dieting, and eating disorders would be a sport.
Can chess be a grind mentally? Yes, but that doesn't make it a sport. If something that is mentally taxing is a sport? Then studying for finals would be a sport.
Should doing your taxes be a sport? It is mentally taxing, so it should be in the olympics.

and what is shooting at olympics?

Shooting (at the Olympics) is a sport that people like to watch. I believe it was one of the 9 events at the first modern Olympics in 1896. It's remained extremely popular ever since, being in both the summer and winter games.
For whatever reason, there were no board games at the first Olympics. And even more strangely, none since then either.
But there is good news. Some board games have their own Olympiads. The Mind Sports Olympiad. And even other, like chess, have their own. A Chess Olympiad. It probably wouldn't make much sense to have wrestling or swimming at a board game Olympiad, just as it wouldn't make much sense to have scrabble or chess at the Olympics.

Why, you can consider the field as a board, everything is designed?

As much as I enjoy chess. I would watch shooting before chess. Anytime you get to play with guns, a fun time is assured.

Chess is a sport, Ian Nepomniachtchi isn't allowed to play for Russia because Russia has been banned from international sporting compotion, so chess is a sport. https://www.chess.com/news/view/nepomniachtchi-russian-flag-wada-ban
So lets see if I am following this correctly. Chess is a sport, because in that article a certain player was not allowed to compete, at a world championship level, because his country was banned from participating. Hmmm, ok.
Under the same rules, tournaments and competitions leading up to that event were not banned. So, chess is a sport only at the world championship level but NOT at the organized competitions leading up to it??? And under the same logic (in the article) checkers falls under the same ban. So checkers is now a sport too? I know, I know, so are Scrabble and Monopoly because they also have organized competitions.
So let me ask you, in your opinion what board games are NOT sports?

You are asking why it wouldn't make sense to have swimming or wrestling at a board game competition?? Well, I suggest this. Petition the Mind Sports Olympiads or even the Chess Olympiads to include swimming and wrestling. They can probably offer a better explanation than I can.

Chess can also involve injuries. I tweaked an ankle once going up and down stairs during a game. I would go to the sports book to check on a Dodgers game.

Fide and the IOC have been negotiating for decades. When I was membership secretary of the BCF back in 1999 they had reached the stage where the IOC was asking the BCF to provide evidence that they had the equipment and knowhow to do random drugs tests at National and International events. They also required the BCF to break up into National federations. The ECF came about this way. Chess IS a sport.
It's not a sport.
It's a board game.

Speaking of the Dodgers. We now have proof that baseball is not a sport. It's been dropped from the Olympic lineup. Chess however, remains a sport because there was that one time someone got up from the table too quickly and got light headed. It was scary for a couple minutes, but he's ok now.

The last time i watched the olympics was during the Tanya Harding attack. As far as pro sports goes? I gave that up when it became political, and all the protesting. They ceased to get my money. Go get some other gullible rube to shell out $20 for a hotdog.

Chess is literally, by definition, a board game. It's not a food. It's not a spaceship.
It's a game, played with little pieces, on a board. A board game.
Besides, categorizing it as a "sport" doesn't somehow elevate it to a grander position.
It's not like a "sport" is somehow superior to a "board game", despite what some people appear to think. It seems like there's an insecurity among some players, where they feel that chess should qualify as a "sport", otherwise they feel slightly and/or insulted.
It's as if they refuse to be called a "chess player", and will only accept being called a "chess athlete".
Why? Chess is a pretty incredible game. It's rather prestigious, as far as board games go. The general population assumes that chess players are, by default, intelligent and/or brilliant. It's not exactly like chess has a bad reputation.

I mostly agree. I say be careful of what you ask for, you just might get it. For those who think chess should become a sport, what would be the result?
Right now chess is basically the king of games. It's the big fish in the small pond. Which is the bigger and better game, chess or Sorry? I think everyone can agree it's chess. But what happens if chess becomes a sport? Then it competes with golf, basketball, football, baseball, and hundreds of other real sports.
All of the sudden people who play chess are no longer brilliant or intelligent. They become dullards and losers because they are playing one of the lowliest sports.
I think if people want chess to be in the Olympics there should be a method where chess players could play in their own tournament with other board games. We could call it Mind Sport Olympiads. Or even better still chess could have it's OWN special competition. We could call it a chess Olympiad. Probably never happen, but it seems like a good idea.

You have apparently missed an uneventful event named Chess Olympiad.
43 of them happened so far.

But... well, this was the least ignorant of your comments.
Not sure if the general public would be pumped to see 2 dudes staring at a board and moving pieces the whole time or even understand the silent but deadly game-winning moves that chess commentators go crazy about.
