Why is chess not at the olympics?

What? You have no idea of my age, first of all. And your age, whatever it is, does not make your opinion any more valid than mine. My opinion has some basis, which I feel should be acknowledged.

I fixed it sorry. @optimissed

Ok, I'll re-read your first comment and try to come up with a more thoughtful response.

I like pigs and have put it there for a personal reason. I could say the same about you and your llama profile picture. I put that particular photo of a pig for no other reason than to get a little laughter out of others. We all know we could use a good laugh once in a while.

Without having read the arguments you're first of all assuming that there are zero reasonable arguments for chess being a sport. I disagree with this, but assuming your assumption is true you take the next reasonable step and explain why all these unreasonable arguments exist. It must be because chess players wish to gain prestige.

Assuming your opponents have no good argument, and then characterizing them as having low self esteem and envy issues is not a stellar argument. Pretty much the only thing your post has going for it is that you're offering your opinion that chess is not a sport and you think the idea of chess as a sport is silly. That part is fine because everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Thank you. I have an opinion like that one for many other topics as well. Take this book I recently read. One of the reviews reads “Elegant and earthy prose.” Now what does”earthy prose” even mean? I call those words, “empty words.” Essentially they are padding. They mean nothing, but they are said to sound more elegant and more educated. Were the authors words plucked from the ground like a carrot?!

No one my age knows what a t-pose is. It's a miracle I know what it is.

Sure, fine art just screams juvenile.

Still llama, my opinion still stands.

The book was nothing short of a horrendous read.

I think you can make a reasonable argument for almost anything that isn't obviously insane. But even so, chess is a board game. All this stuff about physical fitness making a better chess player is bseide the point. When you're healthy you think better, as a rule, than when you're unwell. And my thing about art competitions and maths equation competitions still stands. Cooking competitions?

How about competitive philatelic displays in the Olympics?

Hmm, sure math would be boring to watch.

Chess would also be boring to watch.

Maybe a good standard to include for Olympic sports would be "they should be a spectacle."

Seeing someone run faster or jump higher than any human ever is definitely a spectacle. Chess is definitely not.

Tug of war isn't exactly a spectacle but it is in the Olympics.

Well let’s just say, we have conflicting POVs. None of us are right, yet none are wrong. We can obviously not convince each other otherwise. So it’s case closed.
