Depends on the algorithm. As someone else suggested if it drops a high rated puzzle result and replaces it with the latest you may well lose points.
The average is only the average of your 10 most recent attempts. So, it's possible for the average to go down even if you obtain a score higher than your average. This can happen if the 11th most recent score (that's now being pushed out of the average) was higher than your current score.
