People will cheat because they can't stand to lose. It's got very little to do with ratings or trophies.

C'mon cheat? For a few points? On one-in-a-million-chess sites?  ummmm, I am tempted though!  But really? You'd have to be pretty sad to masquerade a fake score.  I love playing rated (hense my pitiful score) but it adds to the thrill if one manages to win over that better ranking!  Besides, It's the people who play unrated that worry me.

haha, I cheat and masquerade as being a 1000 rated player. I'm really a grandmaster. I just love to beat other 1100s. I set my engine on earthworm level and follow every move. If you compare my games with an engine rated 1000 you'll see a perfect match, haha.

I wouldn't even know how to cheat. Do you have an engine running on another computer, and play on chess.com with one computer, and follow the engine on another? I don't really need to know, I was just wondering how they do it.

If you're playing chess on the internet you will play cheaters at some point, doesn't matter what rating.  Internet chess is worthless because of it.  Just take it for what it is, a way to kill some time.
