Getting back into chess...advice?

Hello everyone,

About a year and a half ago I first learned how to play chess, and I quickly began to love the game.

Chess was practically my life for about 6-7 months, I spent hours playing it every single day.

Unfortunately, I then gradually lost interest and stopped playing, and I've only really been on and off since then, maybe playing the odd game once or twice a week.

However, I now want to get back into chess, but fear that I will be much worse at it. Of course I will be putting in a lot of practice, but, other than that, are there any tips or advice you could give me to help me get back into chess?

Many thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm currently 15 years old, and I began playing when I was 14.

I was going to suggest going through some of your old games...but you have only played 1 game longer than 4 moves here, so there is not much to go through.

You'll get back to where you were pretty quick. Doing a little every day is better than doing a lot for 3 days, getting burned out, and taking a 3 day break, etc.

Find a time control you like, or a video series you like, or an activity like tactic puzzles, and just do what you can enjoy. That way you wont get tried of it too quickly. Later, if you want to improve or improve more quickly, then add something to your routine... but having a routine in the first place is the best thing you can do (for chess or any other skill).

If you're interested in some youtube videos, here are some to consider:

Right now the first page is full of recaps of a chess tournament, but look past the first 20 or so videos and you'll get to all the instructional stuff.
