Don’t focus on getting better too much. Don’t obsess over your rating. If that’s your goal, then you might strive to have that as a secondary priority, but chess is a game, not a chase after some number. It is supposed to be fun. If you’re playing chess solely to get better, then something may be wrong. If you just play to enjoy the experience, then you’ll accidentally get better anyways, and likely want to continue past your goal. It’ll be slow, but the moment you realize you could crush your former self makes it all worth it.
Just enjoy the game, don’t worry too much about getting better. Don’t cry every time you lose a game because your rating dropped, because the job of a game is to be fun. And if you’re having fun, you’ve already won. And one day you’ll realize that you’ve gotten a lot better at the game without even noticing.
You’re doing well. Keep it up!
