Well, the point is, if you are winning games your rating will not change, which would be very discouraging.
Glicko RD

erik,
No offense was taken. I was being lighthearted in my response. Unfortunately I realized later that zborg might be a young person. Actually it was a bad misjudgment on my part.
Let's call it even because this thread has been very helpful to me, Jamie, and I hope others.
Scott

I suspect I'm older than @smb. Yawn. But he's still competing for the maturity prize.
You can find all your answers at the following--http://www.glicko.net/
Just click on "USCF" and "Glicko" to your heart's desire, as per @NimzoRoy above.
And here's @smb being "lighthearted" --
"If I knew you personally I would show you how men work out disagreements if one of them is not a gentleman." (Direct Quote from Post # 16).
Neat trick, don't you think?

PLEASE fix the multiple typos in your (About Me) "Occupation," @smb.
People might get the wrong impression of you.

o The interval formed by Current rating +/- RD contains your true rating
with probability of about 0.67.
o The interval formed by Current rating +/- 2 * RD contains your true rating
with probability of about 0.95.
o The interval formed by Current rating +/- 3 * RD contains your true rating
with probability of about 0.997.

So the RD does represent a standard bell shaped curve. The first RD is between -1 and +1 iteration, etc. Good to know. Thanks MJ4H!

I need a reality check Jamie. Was it me or did those dudes have an axe to grind? I have never met them. I did open up a can of worms by becoming angry in my first reply which was a mistake. I have a feeling though that with characters like those no matter what I said I would have been attacked.
The more important part is that I understand RD better and also how to block people on a blog! Did you find this tread useful?

Reality check even if I'm not Jamie : No worries, it wasn't you trolling around but according to my experience on all internet forums there are special people always trying to prick around, don't know why.
On topic: I found this thread useful for my understanding the RD. A little thought about the minimum RD: If the RD reached zero, no further changes in the rating would be possible, wouldn't it? Therefore, you have to set a minimal RD somehow, am I right?

RD = 0 would be the same as Elo. In fact, Glickman says that Elo is basically just a special case of Glicko where all RDs = 0.

Thank you Spielkalb, this is my first foray into the mostly positive use of the forum platform. One of my jobs is being a professional counselor so I shouldn't have been surprised about the outliers.
MJ4, as a newcomer, is Elo a rating system that indicates performance in a different way than Glicko? For example, I believe the NFL and MLB have adopted the Elo formula for pairs like quarterback/receiver or pitcher/batter ratings. It would seem intuitively somewhat different than Glicko which is a range of "sporting" relationship between the same "positions"--chess player against chess player.
I guess there comes a point of counting angles on the head of a pin so sorry for asking questions which are far afield of the original topic.
Well I guess it is almost moot if you are improving but I get the point. Thanks.
