I mean there’s been a lot of chat about chessbae, but in many respects I thought Hikaru’s team was doing a great job. Ben Finegold is going to be a niche broadcaster and Erik Hansen has a market, but trance music and intensity in community and comment turned me off his channel long before this. I guess I’d occasionally watch his vids.
But I think it’s spot on to say those guys weren’t going to bring chess mainstream popularity. I thought Hikaru’s channel was one of a number that did a great job during the chess boom. If good broadcasting needs proper producing, well produce it then. I’m sure they may be many issues which need addressing, but don’t let Hikaru’s work lose its swagger and interesting output as a result.
Danny, Robert Hess, GingerGM and of course QTCinderellaWGM... all favs. Someone has to broadcast to the Agadmator plus crowd. Keep it fun and inclusive, as well as pure.
