I didn't read the comments, and I am not tracking this forum, but just a quick note I wanted to make that chess.com/chesspark.com was founded in 2007. You couldn't have known this site for more than 19 years

when I play correspondence chess I can't find the analysis board like on old site.  Hope it's there somewhere.  Help please

you need to click on one of the languageless symbols for the analysis board... i'm trying to recall which one... magnifying glass over a board, possibly?

Yes, magnifying glass over chessboard, left of arrow buttons

I posted about it a couple of times but just saw that chesspark also started in 2007.

So, no way 19 years is correct, unless the OP had been following the company that made the Chess Mentor software (which owned the chess.com domain name) from the beginning. The Internet Archive has an enrty from November of 1996, so the company was around then.

I never used V2. Would someone mind letting me know what benefits it had over V3? V3 seems good to me.

switch to v2 now while you still can, i'm sure you'll see the difference instantly...

imo v2 is much harder to navigate

with half as many clicks? you can't be serious...

stewardjandstewardj

I saw this forum in "Most Recent Posts" and now I will follow this forum now that someone said "V3 is much better", which is the words of someone who is new to the site. I have switched to newer versions of plenty of sites and games, including ChessKid.com, but NONE are harder to navigate than the maze of V3

You have joined around the same time V3 was implemented. I don't know the exact date, but I am guessing anywhere from 3 days before it was implemented to a week after it was implemented, judging from the date you joined

The only good thing about V3 is variants and a better look, and the only thing I don't like about V2 is the fact that you can't change the theme

it doesn't even have that...

Of course, looks are very subjective.

there's nothing subjective about white glare...

gambit-man

i'm glad it works for you...

Martin_Stahl

There is nothing subjective about the amount of whitespace or ratio of whitespace to non-whitespace. For some people it can be an issue but for others it isn't. That is what makes it subjective.

We've gone round in circles more than once before on this one Martin, and i know that you do genuinely try to help people where you can. You already know my opinion of the taller but thinner font, set against the glary white background makes for difficult reading.

Of course, i'm already aware that the white used is apparently identical to that used in v2, but in v2 it just doesn't give that glare.

One point of note is that the website for my national federation has recently undergone similar changes, a club-mate of mine doing that work. Numbers of users on that site have drastically reduced since the change, so i'm not the only one with a similar view... One reason given for that change was to be more mobile-friendly, but also having used it on my mobile i struggle to see that argument.

I noticed in the past few days that Youtube have also changed to a taller, thinner, softer font, much to my distaste. A compact and crisp font is so much easier on the eye, especially when reading lots of text.

I'm using v2 right now for the first time in ages (the leaderboard is simply not accessible in v3) and the first thing i notice is the crisp font, making everything a cinch to read at a glance...

Martin_Stahl

I understand and I certainly see that some people can have issues with changes like that.

Maybe a user stylesheet might help for that? I have no idea how many people might have a similar issue.

gambit-man

i use the browser extension, messed around with it for hours before settling on a mid-grey background, the only colour that would show both white and black fonts (both are used around the site) equally well. It's still not pretty, but it doesn't give me eyesore...

One downside is puzzles are spoiled when users post their solutions with a white font on their white background, they can't read it, but set against my grey background, it's rather more conspicuous...
