Dude, I don't know about any good Chess Books to invest for, but here's a tip, buy Chess Books that explains three major aspects of the game. Opening, Middle game and Endgame. Goodluck

trigs
  • for endgames - silman's complete endgame course (silman)
  • for openings - the idea's behind the chess openings (fine?)
  • for middlegames - (for attacking style) the art of attack in chess (vukovic) or (for positional style) how to reassess your chess (silman)

Chess Opening Essentials: The Ideas and Plans Behind All Chess Openings

Stefan Djuric, Dimitry Komarov & Claudio Pantaleoni

I have Vols 1. e4 and 2. d4 of "Chess Opening Essentials". They are really good reference guides but enjoyable and far from dull; comprehensive but succinct in terms of amount of information. They are also easy to work through. Each chapter includes a few games illustrating the openings - these are not, though, annotated which is one of the few significant drawbacks of the books. Recommended and the openings books I use most often as I continue to take up chess after a 20 year pause.
