Hmmm, I see Fide lists Gwaze as IM. That link I posted might have been a little optimistic.
greatest african american chess player

Sorry, but that term really bugs me.....
Given that the very notion of "race" has no scientific basis and is rooted not in biology but in social constructs stemming from an opressive past, at least "African-American" is meaningfully descriptive of something (for those who have a sense of their ancestory).
( meaningful description ?) What the hell are u drinking ? So-called African Americans are from U.S.of A . not African. This is a word game used in effort to separate in lanquage, what is not true in fact. We do not say German Americans or Jewish, Irish, etc. Of course people become citizens all the time,.....they are americans.

"Race" has no scientific basis? Utter Bolshoi!

"Race" has no scientific basis? Utter Bolshoi!
It has a scientific basis, social sciences though, not genetics or biology. See the article I linked.

And of course, there's my old mate Watu, He first kicked my butt when he was a 12 or 13 year old skinny wide eyed lad. Got up to 2 GM norms, never made the 3rd :(

Wow, this is the last line of the article:
"This new construction of race…is socially inflected—but it is not solely a social construct because biology is front and center.”
The article was just focusing on how 99.9% of our DNA is the same, and that we share a common ancestry in Africa.

That's a great way to put it.

Bernard Parham pioneered a system known as Matrix Chess, and achieved the title of Master with it. This led to other players such as Nakamura trying the Parham Attack.

Yes, but Benard Parham was probably the most famous example of use, and also Seirawan isn't african american

I met Maurice Ashley once. He showed me a chess problem and asked for the answer, and I said, "Move the... um..." and he said, "The um is not a chess piece." Lol.

Seirawan was born in Syria. He doesn't even hold the record for being America's best Asian American chess player!

According to the article you linked --
“We are all Africans under the skin.” (direct quote, Spencer Wells)
And since Africans (being the oldest) have the greatest genetic diversity, that shifts this dicussion to -- who is the greatest human chess player?
The OP has recreated the Fischer versus Kasparov versus "Whomever is the Greatest Chess Player" thread, yet again!
We Chessplayers sometimes get stuck in infinite loops. No surprises there.
Nuff said?

Perpetual draws.

These were the only three I could find.

And of course, there's my old mate Watu, He first kicked my butt when he was a 12 or 13 year old skinny wide eyed lad. Got up to 2 GM norms, never made the 3rd :(
Are you saying that you are Judit Polgar?
Amon Simutowe doesn't seem to have played since 2010 and he's currently living in the US it seems.
For whatever reason, FIDE doesn't list ANY players currently claiming Zambia or Zimbabwe as their home countries. Maybe it's just a temporary glitch in the system.
