wow! Fantastic pics! Thank you all. I've bookmarked this page
Greatest Chess Photos

i think the Alekhine picture was set up by the KGB or something, its not natural! the chess board is set up but no pieces moved!? come on now Alekhine wouldnt have a board set up and not move anything! hes wearing a coat at the dinner/chess table?! no signs of a struggle like someone choking or stroking or having a heart attack, he looks like he fell asleep at the table...it was believed that someone placed him there!? yea the KGB! (sorry to offend any KGB agent reading this dont kill me please im just a stupid american kid)
Actually, the KGB wasn't created till 1954. Back in 1946, the Soviet nasties belonged to the NKVD (which may have been even more powerful).

goldendog The story I read about the death of Alekhine that he choked on a piece of meat... He must have swallowed the whole steak with one bite (why use knife or fork) and bammmm! Also, I do not think the Russians were behind it (why kill him right before the match), but it was a revenge by others (French?) for his suspected nazi involvement.

Here's an interesting picture of Judit Polgar and Bobby Fischer, the only pic I've ever seen of them together (along with Klara and Zsofia).
Can anyone tell me who Polgar is playing in this picture? It looks a lot like Korchnoi, but I can't tell for sure.
Here's a pic with a lot of youthful faces:
And one last one for this post. Can't help posting it ... Judit and Zsofia are so adorable!
All of these pictures can be found at Judit Polgar's website - juditpolgar.com. I'd highly recommend checking it out. There's a bunch of interesting pics of the Polgar family from back in the day, but I thought I'd post a few of the especially interesting ones here.

Regarding Post #766 (posted by myself), I did some research and found the following names for the children:
Left to right:
- Evelyn Moncayo Romero (Ecuador) - Girls Under-10
- Judit Polgar (Hungary) - "Boys" Under-14
- Nawrose Farh Nur (USA) - Boys Under-10
- Corina Peptan (Romania) - Girls Under-12
- Diana Darchia (USSR) - Girls Under-14
- Boris Avrukh (USSR) - Boys Under-12
Thanks to hicetnunc for Post #768 - which identified Boris Avrukh for me .

Karpov always looks like he needs to shampoo his hair to me. Almost every picture I have seen of him his hair looks dirty/greasy and in person I noted its the same.....
One odd thing that always stood out in my mind was Karpov's baby teeth. Take a look a picture 432 on page 22---have you ever seen a grown man with teeth that small ? I think later on he had dental work done because his teeth look more natural now.

This is a photo of a cast taken of Paul Morphy's hand.
I think I'm correct in saying that the cast is kept in the Marshall Chess Club.
In Dr.Frank Brady's biography of Bobby Fischer, he mentions that Fischer actually touched the cast of Morphy's hand.
It was if you like a symbolic meeting of champions of the ages!

Great photos!

I've never seen any photos from 1970 speed chess tournament in Yugoslavia.
Here is Bobby Fischer playing Tal.

The two photos above also appear in the book, "Русские против Фишера" (Russia vs Fischer) by Sergey Voronkov and Dmitry Plisetsky.

Thanks for all the names. I now have so many photos. I love this post.
The only ones I didn't copy are those that I don't recognize or bill Wall posted without any names.
