Of course you could have won it... if you hadn't stalemated your opponent.
Did you read the Wikipedia entry explaining what a stalemate is?
Im extremely new and clearly terrible at chess, wondering how many turns i have before a draw i was under the impression that it was 50 but it seems to be happening at under 10
