has a famous or grandmaster game ended with an en passant checkmate?

That would be really cool. Anyone know of any such game?

Don't know, but I recently posted a Morphy game where he castles into checkmate.

Perhaps many have resigned once they realized the inevitable.

I can't ever recall seeing any game ending like that.  Must've happened sometime or other though...

Never seen or heard that ever happening in any game at any level, seen where en passant is the only move to get out of checkmate but not when it’s the mating move.

I found this:

Speaking of weird ways to mate, I remember the TV show with Barbara Eden called I dream of Jeannie. There is an episode where she is playing chess against herself. She blinks her eyes and then says check. She pauses for a few seconds, blinks, then stops the check but then delivers checkmate the other way. Is this even possible?

Regarding the OP's question, I only found one additional game in addition to Post 8 - between two approx 1800s.

Check answered by checkmate? Yeah it's possible.

But usually just in the movies. Also they'll do check answered by check too, which is uncommon.

Obviously I put zero effort into this, but as a proof of concept:

Ya. In this problem you didn't even put 1% effort in this! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, there actually were a couple! grin.png  And the first one is especially remarkable because it's a double check, and the ep enables the queen to protect the pawn.
