Has the rating system changed?

I've gone from about 800-900 up to 1200 in a pretty short period of time. I don't think I've improved, so I'm suspecting the system has changed to boost everyone's rank to make us all feel better so we'll subscribe.

What's the deal?

I’ve gotten from around 600 to 2000 in less than half the time you got to 1200. So they didn’t change the rating system at all and I think your progress is fairly slow.

lol Oh yeah? How long did that take you?

10 months

Idk why I said half lol. I see you’ve been playing for 12 years.

But you can’t be thinking chess.com is changing peoples ratings so they can make more money. 800-1200 in 12 years simply isn’t that quick.

They may have added a glicko factor in the rating equation if you were away from some time to cover uncertainty for if you got better or worse in that break.

It happened with me when I took a few months break.

I'm not talking about 12 years, though. XDDD I was 800-900 easily within the last year. I'm not sure why I've gone from that to ~1200 after basically eleven years at that 800-900 range.

Time is irrelevant. It's number of games that matters.

Oh yeah, that's true. I've played just over twice as many games as that person, but they have only had their account for less than a year compared to my twelve. lol

I'm sure if I was as dedicated, I could be 2000 as well. (COPIUM)

Not true at all. This 1200 has played far more games than me. The main thing is time. Not time playing chess but time studying chess.

You were wrongly rated at 600, you should have started out much higher. You weren't a 600 rated player in the first place when you started out.

Nobody goes from 600 to 2000 in 10 months skills-wise, even Magnus or Praggnanadhaa didn't do that. You were probably around 2000 to begin with and just climed up to your actual level within 10 months.

@NMRhino, he is exceptional when it comes to chess improvement; I can attest because we were both training partners at one point.

I wouldn’t question his hard work and dedication.
