Haters on Chess.com

I recently beat a higher ranked opponent, i played a good game, he was ranked higher than me, and he posts on my profile not to play with me because "i.m all the time chirin?" First i don't even know what that means and second when we started playing you could tell their was contempt for me in his style of play. Obviously he thought since iwas ranked lower then him he should have won just by accepting my challenge. I love the game of chess and i have had my share of victory and defeat but i have never trashed another player just because i lost. I find this very poor sportsmanship and am wondering how you can report haters? Has this happened to anyone else? I can find my game and post the game or at least help you find it in my archives so you can look and base your own impressions. It was a good game, i don't think he expected the outcome at all...

If you want to examine the game you can find it in my archives under ***Mod edit vs. x1121x

No naming and shaming please. Mod.

I think it's not liked by staff very much to name miscreant opponents here :)

I've had a game yesterday against a slightly lower rated opponent who began chatting to me around move 13 or so that he was bored by me not using my own brain and instead making "copycat". I don't know if this was a cheating accusation or if he just didn't like me to know some opening theory (although I doubt that I was still playing book at this point). If he meant cheating, it's very funny because I left my queen hanging on move 16 (that's certainly what any engine would do!) and he didn't notice it. As I had mate in one, he wrote "now it's your turn to be bored" and abandoned the game. I chatted back "1:20, I think I'll get over it" (as it was a 3 minute game or so) and he then told me that he would block me and I should "use my own system" next time!?

When I lose, I only trash myself, never my opponent :)

I like how chess.com tries to censor the guy's name but any semi-intelligent person can figure out who it was.

For the sake of the poor moderators I won't post it here and just assume there's a good reason they're doing this.

I used to play with chat disabled, but apparently there seem to be a lot of players who are offended by this, so I leave it on now and maybe disable it later as needed ... however in this game I didn't even know what he was talking about and was just curious :)

Is this some new internet kids thing?

In one of my recently bullet games, my opponent wrote thx after I won his Queen! Now that's creepy...

But what does chirin mean? Wikipedia is at a loss... Undecided

Unfortunately 'bad form' is all to common. Nobody likes to lose but it certainly brings out the worst in some. I once beat someone who was about 100 points above me (not in another class by any means) and he accused me of using a "chess calculator".

I don't agree with disabling the chat unless the person is a friend. If you do that how can you find new friends? Yes, there are times that it can be distracting. Last night I played a guy who, in the midst of "small talk" told me he was putting the wood to his own sister and even has a child with her! I am so glad I was playing 'unrated' at the time! Thankfully there is always the option of disabling chat when those rude folks come along.

Urban dictionary lacks a definition as well.  We can only assume a chirin was some misspelled attempt at something less than pleasant.

When I was playing on ICC a few years ago, my opponent rudely and repeatedly used the chat function to tell me to hurry up with my moves (it was on the longest time control for live chess that they offered.) I ignored him and won and he immediately challenged me to a rematch. I wrote back: "Mommy says I have to do my homework now. I am only five years old!" I loved doing that lol

"haters" is from ebonics.
Its like a "shameing technique"...
Its usually a lazy and quick way to try to shutdown an argument without actually giving a logical point.

Its like when a guy posts something critical about a girl on some forum and the girl will say: "youre just bitter and never get laid"

Although now its losing its meaning because its used for every tiny thing that doesnt suit the person to the T.

Dang, just today I learned the word for laughing and snot comes out your nose and now it's forgotten.

I was just accused of cheating after beating a much higher ranked opponent.

This is why I disable my chat and profile messages. Haters will be haters. I just block the haters. I am here to play chess. If I want to chat, I will go else where.

I don't understand why people allow the chat if it's not someone they know. just disable it. chances are if the random opponent who you don't know decides to make use of it, it won't be something pleasant. it's the internet.

I've had some fantastic chats with complete strangers over some of my chess games. Made some good chess friends too. Unfortunately there are those on here that ruin the privilage of a chat box, and even more unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it officially. If you report them, you will receive a generic message from a mod that might as well never have been sent. The best you can do in this situation, as people have already said, is to either disable chat on that person or block that member.

This site accepts all contributions, from nice people and from complete jerks. It's just the way it is Frown
