And there was me thinking I was going to see the name Beast719 at the top of this post...

Beast719

I once played against someone who was paranormal but boy could he handle that wheel-chair!  He was pants at chess though but I do think they all deserve Gold medals - every one's a winner.

Everyone who's sighted flying glowing orbs, see here (bottom line: they're natural - although rare - atmospheric phenomena). If it happens to you, just don't touch them!

the ball lighting is very interesting, it's exactly like what I saw except the ball didn't have a tail like in the pics

i was playing one time and the ghost of Tartakowerentered my body and began making strange moves, and then Nimzo entered me too, and then Keres, and then Alekhine...soon i had over 100 dead chess players trying to control my hand all arguing about what the best move was...nimzo wanted to make a mysterious rook move, Tal wanted to sac my queen, Alekhine wanted me to drink a litre of vodka before i made my next move, Fine wanted to psychoanalyse the position to find the underlying unconscious motivations, Tartakower kept making odd suggestions, Keres wanted me to play correspondence chess (kings gambit no less), Lasker wanted to make an inferior move that would make my opponent uncomfortable, and freakin Rubinstein wanted me to nab that pesky fly buzzing around my head!  it was too much, just too much!  then the men in white came, strapped me down to a metal bed and gave me shots of halidol...i dont remember much after that...true story!

today i experienced a strange power outage in my room.  i wasnt playing chess although there is a chess board right next to my bed.  i was playing guitar and i noticed the amp stopped working the computer turned off along with the closet light.  then i noticed my vcr making noise and the poltergeist VHS tape that i just watched moved out and back in on its own. the power came back on a few seconds later.  normally power outages last pretty long.

Haha, oh man, so funny, I think I might love you Beast.

The closest I heard to what you claim to have experienced was a story an experienced player once told me: After playing a simultaneous match against 8 or so opponents, he found himself sitting in his car in a rest area at the highway with no recollection how he got there. He quit playing simultaneous games after that (Actually, we were discussing Stefan Zweig's "Schachnovelle").

Maybe extreme concentration can put you in a trance state that does affect your memory & perception.

So I would believe that you saw what you recall seing ...

When I "gross blunder",

Now, that IS paranormal....

Paranormal = Bull

Uhh your opinion = bull.

Paranormal simply means outside of normal experience or scientific explanantion, not that the phenomena is caused by ghosts and pixies!

I'm sure everybody has experienced something unusual that they can't explain - hence paranormal. It's much like the UFO debate - just because something is unidentified doesn't automaticaly make it alien, but it is still a UFO. How did you get to be an NM with fuzzy thinking Zug? Laughing
