The word "hello" wasn’t commonly used as a greeting before the invention of the telephone. Back in the day, people would say things like “Good day” or “How do you do?” But when the telephone came around, Alexander Graham Bell, the guy who invented it, wanted people to answer calls by saying “Ahoy!” (yep, like a pirate 😄).

But then along came Thomas Edison, and he casually started saying “Hello” when testing the phone. That word sort of slipped out, like you said—he didn’t invent it, but he made it popular for phone conversations.

So yeah, you're kinda right: “hello” became the thing to say on the phone because a guy said it almost accidentally… and it stuck.

Wild how one word can travel the world just from a random moment like that, right? 📞👋
