My friend will be organising a tournament. I am pretty sure for the group stage but in the semi final I will be playing some rated 1800. I have defeated people on other websites with there chess.com rating around 1300. So I am fine with 1300-1400 but I want to know any way I can defeat him.

Do not focus on defeating, focus on not getting defeated i.e. on avoiding mistakes yourself. If you think carefully about every move, see how long you can play without making a mistake.
Just play defensive and read what they are doing first,then go on the offense
The best thing you can do is to play for a draw trades all the pieces and go for drawish endgame if possible
Like everyone else has said, play defensively and try not to focus on the fact that he is 500 points high than you as it will cause stress. Anything is possible.

@Zigsy1 I am so sorry that the tournament is only for my friends and it has no prize fund but if you want tournaments with prize funds, then try playing arena kings or other chess.com tournaments. 😀
