Help Buying Chessbase Megabase?

I doubt an older Megabase would be a wise purchase for you. If you explain what you're hoping to gain from it I might be able to suggest better alternatives.

I am looking for a really good quality (large) chess database, with as many annotated games as possible in it. Mainly to seach games for lines taken, positions, openings, endgames, and to research any opponents I know I may have to face in OTB.
I want annotated as I am still (obviously) learning and want to understand each position as fully as possible. I was hoping that I could buy the megabase from 2006/7 somewhere, but it isn't looking good. Nothing on ebay or amazon.

It will be really interesting to see what features the Games Explorer here att Chess.Com will offer whenever it gets here ;)

If you are looking how the master plays a certain opening or what they do on a certain position, the you should look at www.chessgames.com or at chesslab.com
They are a great (and free!!) source of informacion and you can download all the games in PGN format and creating your own custom database.
For openings you can also check this site: www.365chess.com

The "Big Database" and "Mega Database" are the same size--the difference is in the Mega Database 60,000 of the games are annotated (some of the annotations are symbols-only). More recent versions will of course include more games and more players.
Note, usually only games from major tournaments will appear. For example, of my last 3 opponents (1850, 1975, 2050), only the 1975 was in the (2008) database.
Instead of buying an old Mega Database (150€), consider buying the up-to-date Big Database 2008 (50€) and then adding annotated games from another source. For example, at chesspublishing.com you can get a 3-section subscription for 36€ and that gives you access to eBooks explaining the major lines openings as well as a constantly updating collection of relevant master games. They also have good opening forums and a letterbox where you can ask the annotators questions. NIC Yearbook, openings books, and game collections are also great sources for annotated games to consider.
Hi everyone.
Does anyone know where I can buy an older copy of the Chessbase Megabase? I'd love the 2008 version, but not at £100, so am looking to save money by getting an earlier year.
Thanks.
