...Help: Everyman Chess Viewer - ERROR When Trying to Download My Purchase

Hi

When trying to download my purchases from Everyman Chess using their Chess Viewer for Android, I get "ERROR Downloading Books From Store" message.

I have reached out to Everyman Chess, but I guess they are really busy.

Has anyone had a similar issue and know how to fix the problem?

Or, is there a contact at Everyman Chess  that I can reach out to?

I've tried the support@  and  info@ email addresses - I have not heard back.

I haven't found much new other than a suggestion to use their contact form:

And checking out https://everymanchess.com/pages/chess-viewer-android to make sure you're on the newest version of the app.

It took forever, but I eventually heard back from Everyman Chess customer service.

Let's just say that Everyman Chess Customer service has a lot or opportunity for growth.

The app is broken. It seems that they have one developer. I have little hope that they will fix Chess Viewer in the foreseeable future.

I'm very disappointed.

I purchased the Yasser Seirawan Winning Chess bundle - an expensive purchase. I'm totally stuck.

I reached out to Forward Chess. Forward Chess sells Everyman Chess Books on their web site and their app works. They offered to give me access to my purchase if Everyman gives them permission to do so. I reached out to Everyman but never heard back.

All new purchases for my Chess Library are digital. It's a much better learning experience.

Future purchases of Everyman Chess will be from Forward Chess - they have great customer service.

November 2023 and I am having the same problem with the iOS version. I have asked Apple for a refund. I got a sort of reply from Everyman but then it went quiet.

So, I agree. It is very disappointing and rather crazy that we want to give them our money, but they can't be bothered to work out how to take it. Their customer support also leaves a lot to be desired.

Many thanks for the feedback here - and apologies from us at Everyman Chess. Firstly of course apologies to those on this thread and anyone else who may have experienced difficulties restoring their downloads.

Earlier in 2023 both Google and Apple made some updates to their APIs which caused this functionality in our app to become unreliable. Resolving this required considerable investment in further development to the Chess Viewer Apps to refactor our code. We completed this in August, so that restoring purchases should now be straightforward in either app, *provided* that the user account that you are authenticated with on your devices matches that with which your original purchases are made.

• Apple iOS Chess Viewer: Open the App, click Buy Books and then the Gear icon in the top right-hand corner and Restore Purchases
• Google Android Chess Viewer: Open the App, click Buy Books and then Restore Purchases in the top right-hand corner

Please note it is possible (and preferable in our view) to buy your eBooks directly at everymanchess.com and then import to your app manually, or indeed any other Chess Viewing app which supports complex, large pgn files. There are also added benefits:

•  You will also receive an eReader (such as Kindle) ePub version and a cbv (ChessBase specific) version of your eBook
• You will also receive Reward Points which can be redeemed on future purchases at everymanchess.com

This is especially preferable to us because when users buy via the in-app store they are doing business with Apple/Google and so we do not have access to customer data which makes addressing any issues much harder, plus more recently we have found both are liable to make unpredictable changes causing issues outside of our immediate control (with regards in-app purchases).

I’m not sure if the problem was really fixed. I’m having a problem downloading my purchase in July 2024. I asked the seller for help two days ago. It would be great to get a response either fixing an issue or helping me transfer my purchase to Forward Chess.
