Remember my words, you'll have to face a Chinese.

Pulp: After five-seven years?!

MuhammadAreez10

@baddogno: I've read the article. What to do now? How can I find a tournament?

MuhammadAreez10

I'm getting sick thinking a Chinese will be sitting in front of me in all major tournaments.

Pulpofeira

He, he! Why, anyway? Are you switching to Xianqi?

ProfessorProfesesen

Forget playing chess. That is how they used to do it in the olden days. What you need to do is download all the six million grandmaster games and just memorise them. And memorise all endgames.

Then they will have nowhere to run!Laughing

MuhammadAreez10

Xiangqi? No chance!

MuhammadAreez10

But remember what Magikstone said?!

Start small.  Open an Arena account which will get you a FIDE membership. Rise through the rankings there until your dad recognizes that your skill level needs to be nurtured through OTB play. Then after you become a member of the Indian Chess Federation and win many tournaments, your skill level will be recognized and some rich guy will sponsor you and you can start competing internationally.  Hey, at least you still have your dreams; the rest of us old burnouts don't even have that anymore.  Good luck to you.

Pulpofeira

If he doesn't like to face Chinese opponents, he'll have a tough life in his way to the Championship from now.

MuhammadAreez10

Wait. Why the Indian Federation? I'll check out Arena. Maybe if I get a title there, my father will be interested to make me play OTB. He's a nice guy, just like you baddogno!

baddogno

Aww, now you're making me feel embarassed. Embarassed While I think my advice was sound, my main function on this thread was to act as a straight man for the comedians.  No reason to give up your dream, but please remember that school work should be your first priority.  We all need to make a living and a good education is essential to your future happiness.

MuhammadAreez10

My school spring holidays have begun. I have two-three weeks to get in a tourney. Please find any tourney in Faisalabad! I can't.

Send your federation an email... maybe they know:

Go to ICCF ...... they have rated fide tourneys , last time I looked it was $ 15 dollars to join one .... you will play on line .... bad part , you'll be playing against masters & GMs .... but you may be able to get a rating ... you'll need to check this out as it's been a few years since I played there ...Oh ... and you may need to belong to a club ( you could join the USCF ) it was around 48 dollars for a 1 year membership .... that was last year

That's money everywhere. I am not very rich and can probably not afford more than $100 on chess right now.

Becoming world champion would take soooo much effort.  Who has time for effort, man?
