Here's my advice: Don't take SUPER LONG time on moves in the opening that look interesting and you want to play it but you know it's wrong like I did agasint Erik Santarius and lost.

Make obvious moves quickly

You shouldn't take too long on some moves but don't make the Quiessance Error or whatever it's called

In both games you had reached the endgame, even though the Qs were still on the board in game #1. Correct if I am wrong, as a CM you have received your status based on a rating of on-line games. What is your OTB rating. An OTB rating USCF or FIDE of 2000-2199 is known as an Expert. As an Expert you have a pretty healthy 5 visualization pattern memory banks. Your Tactics, Mating Net, and Endgame visualization pattern memory banks are going to be mighty handy. If you have a properly developed one just looking at the position should cause a move to jump up off the board and smack you on the forehead in a flash! All the while looking for perpetual check or stalemate moves to secure a draw. If you don't find any play the move the move that jumped up, especially if you are gaining extra seconds on the clock with every move you make. After making the move and stopping your clock, immediately begin analyzing the move for your opponent that jumps up off the board and smacks you on the forehead. The likelihood that your opponent has analyzed the position and found some counterintuitive move that you don't expect is very unlikely. If he does he either got lucky and had a better perspective on the position than you, or your opponent is extremely strong and you are going to lose no matter what. Assume he got lucky and look for perpetual checks, stalemate positions. If you can't find any, play the move that jumped up off the board and smacked you on the forehead.

@Yaroslavi CM means he has reached 2200 FIDE, I don't think you can get titles online.

My apologies CM Thunder_Penguin. I remember reading somewhere that chess.com was considering awarding an online CM title.

Do you recall on what move # you got into time trouble and how much time was left on your clock?

Hey David :)

I'd say spend as much time as you want during the game until you get to around 10 minutes. That's when I usually switch to blitz mode. And maybe you can consider putting increment on the time control? Most OTB tournies that we go to offer some level of delay/increment, and it can greatly lessen then time pressure in these situations.

And yeah. Qxf2 and you were definitely winning ;)
