Help with endgame

the following position was reached after Bayonnet attack in Kings Indian, the idea being that white gives up the exchange for compensation (bishop pair, open game and a passed pawn - I think)

What I didn't really understand was how to proceed and went from a very promising position to one that is almost instantly losing.  Can anyone help me understand what I should have done and possibly the reasons why I lost.  For example was it wrong to trade a pair or rooks? What is really the nature of whites compensation and how can it be exploited? Many thanks in advance - regards Robbie.

The full game.

Rc1 and exchange rocks are wrong first of all. Its important to keep that rook coz urs is active and u need it to attack and protect 1st rank.

Instead u should play Rd1 and then h3-g4, advancing pawns to attack black king.

g3 does not lose ur position still better, but g4! wins!

Lets say he plays Nh4, f4! and black can not stop winning pawn storm.

Coz u gonna make protected passed pawns and they are terrible strong with bishop pair.

The rest I did not even see, coz this was ur best chance!

Good game anyway)

In that given position white wins with g4!, pls calculate some lines and u will realise.

There IS compensation! It does not give advantage but just the matter of taste

in the position you've given i think white is already lost

g3 doesn't change anything

personally i think the exchange sac is downright losing, i don't see any compensation for the exchange whatsoever

Its not losing its winning. in fact even after 27...Qxe7 the move before the position I posted white has an advantage of 2.2 according to the computer.

Not only that the line is a well known variation and has been played by many super Grandmasters including Kramnik and Shirov. That you cannot see it does not mean that it does not exist, it simply means that you cannot see it.
