Help with Mac chess app

I want to play chess long distance with my granddaughter using the chess app that comes with the Mac operating system. I’ve looked at the one at Chess.com, but I think it would be overwhelming for her. The Mac one is much cleaner and I think she could understand it better.
This should be simple, but I haven’t been able to set it up successfully. Is there anyone who has used the Mac app and could help me for a few minutes?
