No one bid on it besides Iran.

It received no news coverage, until 1 player refused to go.

Suddenly people are up in arms over this.

People were in arms about it for decades. Just reconnaissance was a bit slow.

Do you mean everybody wanted to organize Grand Prix tournaments and nobody the World Championship? Not very likely! I bet the formula wasn't too clever, or the price too high. To market its product properly, isn't that one of the prime functions of FIDE management? Time to find some new guys and gals for that job?

5 Men stoned to death for not wearing ties...

We all know this is not about a dress code. People are shouting out because it is a Muslim country, Westerners don't approve of their politics and religeon.

People are not stoned to death there. The country is far safer than many in the region. Tehran is absolutely alot safer than the streets of Chicago. Your chanches of being shot for walking down any street greatly exceed that of any stoning in Tehran (which is inciteful and simply a false accusation)

A poster was correct. This thread is again being hijacked by abusers and will be locked soon, unless the OP is proactive.

This comment is not directed towards Carla.. I only disagree with what I consider a misguided inflammatory remark. No. It is against the same ones that managed to get Robbie thread blocked.

ArgoNavis

Oh yeah how kind of them instead of stoning they just hang them. I would appreciate it.

Hangings... stoning ? Cut the bs. It's a socialigical issue. Shouting such nonsense shows your total lack of any intelligence.

RoobieRoo

Anyone seeking to know why the 's World Ch. will be held in should examine Kirsan's business dealings there.

RoobieRoo

After showing grovelling public fealty to the Kirsan regime, can change her tune when it suits her

Insulting people who disagree with you shows your total lack of any respect.

The ultimate hypocrite. .. Nigel Short

He coached the Iranian Olympic Team when it filled his pockets with $.

Nigel Short? LMAO

ArgoNavis

I don't know why people pay so much attention to Short. He's clearly nuts.

mdinnerspace

I do not respect people who falsely shout fire in a crowded movie theatre.

Polgars statement is very sensible. 1st I've read her response. Many here slammed Susan, saying she supported the repression of Woman's rights. Nothing could be further from what she said.

ArgoNavis

There is nothing false in my words.

Among all your replies, this is one of the most random ones. Congrats. You're improving.

Hey Ghosty, Talking is important and I wish talking worked, but unfortunately it doesn't always.

Peaceful protest, sanctions  and boycotts can make people more ready to listen. See Ghandi, Mandela, Rosa Parks, Emily Pankhurst etc.

Mandela was a leading member of the ANC, which was committed to armed struggle and the US civil rights movement included the Black Panthers but I do take your point all the same ;)

All of these approaches, peaceful and non-peaceful alike, have their place but a major problem is that none of them makes money.

War makes money.

Polgars statement is completely sensible - if you are a woman considering a holiday booking in Iran.

But our woman is not! She is facing a terrible dilemma between compromising her feelings and convictions, and damaging her professional career by giving up her ambitions in the pinnacle chess event and losing substantial income if not rating points.

And this dilemma for her was created knowingly and willingly by a few men in power who forgot who they are working for. We in FIDE, are we here to serve the men and women in our federation, or are we here to serve a religious propaganda machine? Isn't that a difficult question? Ahh, we have thought about it and came up with the answer. Whatever brings in the dough! And today's winner is ....... Iran!

Though it is crystal clear that FIDE is the only real issue in this debate, everybody is pulling it into his private space of unresolved issues with religion, culture and morality of a complete lifetime - if not beyond that. Wake up debaters, and look where the fire is!
