Every month, 100's, yes I said 100's of innocent woman and children are shot on the streets of Chicago, doing nothing but walking down the street, minding their own business. Is this not a violation of their rights? Where will you stand when the next Chicago Open is staged and players from around the world wish to attend??

500 homicides. 9 months. 1 American city.

I said "fallacy", not "fake".

Gun crime in USA is a completely different subject.

I dont like women wearing being oppressed, I also don't like gun crime.

Yes, kingof it is usually clear and concise, strange misunderstanding is that one.

Facts. Nothing but the facts. Besides the homicides, I said 'shot" which doubles the totals. No doubt. Chicago is a very dangerous place to live, maybe the most in western society.

Alot of shootings are gang on gang, and not state endorsed shooting of hundreds of women and children.

Different subject agreed. But why or how can one injustice to picked over another? Is not the injustice of being shot exceed that of a dress code being mandatory?

Why a protest against an obviously less grievous injustice? Probably because you're a woman, not affected by violence, but take exception to someone telling you what to do. An arbitrary difference.

Again I reiterate... read what past participants of events in Iran have said. Many come out in supporting local customs. Never problems.

This all came about by 1 journalist being irresponsible, making a sensational copy from 1 and only one participant making a quick statement.

Anyway, I doubt boycotting the Womens World Champs will make a scrap of difference to the regime's oppression of women in Iran.

Md, you lack logic,  I wasn't responding to you.

Avatar of mdinnerspace

If you're going to be an activist and stand for boycotting an event, then please be consistant. You can't pick and choose depending on whether or not you're personally offended. That's hypocritical in my book.

Everyone's a hypocrite in your book

Many of the shootings are gang related.

But the majority of the casualties are innocent people caught in the cross fire. A tragedy this is happening. There are many localized civic groups taken action. One group, quite prominent in fact, is advocating all woman deny sex to men until the madness ends.

Women boycotting Chicago Chess open is really going to stop those gangs in their tracks..

Ahh.. so you agree. There are better ways to express a protest against injustice in some instances than a boycott.

The hijab is a symbol of oppression not just a piece of cloth. No woman should be forced to wear it. It may not be considered a religious thing for some, but it originates from the teaching of Mohammed. Oppressive cultures should not be encouraged, nor respected.
