Home Field Advantage?

I've often heard people mention "home field advantage" when it comes to various competitions, be it football, baseball, basketball, etc... so how about chess? Wouldn't Anand have the home field advantage since the match is in his hometown? I'm surprised FIDE allowed that to happen - It would make more sense to hold the match in a neutral location. And if Anand wins it just allows some people to say "He had an advantage playing in his hometown", taking away credit for that win. Thoughts?

I think the world champion should get to defend the title in their home country. I think it's the first time that Anand is going to play for the championship in India.

well, carlsen won the wcc without the "home field advantage", so...

In my opinion home field advantage is compareable to Capablanca's theorem, Q+N > Q+B. Ceteris paribus if all else being equal that tandem is roughly equivalent to home field advantage in football. Granting 55% chance vs 45%.

In that case the advantage is trivial enough to be said it's comparable to home field advantage as in football.

are there actually fans of chess that cheer moves in person?

somehow i see no correlation between sporting events, where playing on one's home field could matter, and playing a chess game anywhere.

call me crazy. you wouldn't be the first.

irony is ok. maybe crazychessplaya can sort it out.
