Honorary GrandMaster

So I discovered that there are Honorary GM's and Honorary WGM's on our planet:

HGM Heinz Lehmann
HGM Vladimir Makaganov
HGM Vladas Mikenas
HGM Dragoljub Minic
HGM Rudolf Teschner
HWGM Corry Vreeken

Can't find anything about this title on FIDE. Does anyone know more about how the above players became H(W)GM?

Where did you discover these honorary GMs?  Maybe there's no info at FIDE because these titles only exist in someone's imagination, misinterpretation or mistranslation.

Honorary grandmasters[edit]

From 1977 until 2003, FIDE awarded honorary Grandmaster titles to 31 players based on their past performances or other contributions to chess. Since 2007, no distinction has been made between an "honorary" grandmaster and a full grandmaster. The following players have been awarded honorary Grandmaster titles:

I had been researching a bit to see why he was awarded the honorary GM title in 1980, but no luck. Anyone know?

in this list, guess the surprise was Vladas Mikenas, i have checked his games abit cos i sometimes play Mikenas opening and guy is so good used to think he is GM, also i think FIDE should award Donald Bryne with honorably GM
