14. C3
Horrific losses at 900 Elo
Great game to use for improvement though! Did you rush the move? If it was rushed qb4 is perfectly normal.
It was equal until f4 lost the advantage, and nxb5 allowed -M7. Pretty decent game though! Keep analyzing and this won't happen again!
your A3 pawn was being attacked initially by two pieces then a third (knight) which you all ignored. also castling queen side in typically a race on who can get to the king first and when pawns are rolling towards your king and you have no immediate attacks to their king, that will land you in trouble.
If you are 900 you should not play 1.d4 openings. Easier to understand and funnier are positiins from open games (1.e4 e5)
I recomended to my students four knights scotch or vienna.
I wouldn't even be playing an 1800 unless it was unrated. I suffer enough defeats at the hands of opponents who are more or less the same rating as me (900-1000).
I actually was automatically paired with an 1800. I have no choice but to play.
Two things to consider: 1) you can control the rating range of challengers in online games in your Settings > Gameplay and 2) you (I believe) always have an option to abort a game at the first move. I'm not exactly clear on this (never done it) but I'm pretty sure you can get out of any game when it initially starts.
Good evening,
I have some trouble knowing what I am doing wrong. I keep losing against higher rated players.
So far I have a USCF (preliminary) rating of 907p OTB
Here is one of my recents vs an 1800. I'll upload my other games later:
I seem to be more upset than usual.
In March-April of 2025, I played a 4-round G100+10 Swiss OTB. I lost Game 1, won Game 2, and lost games 3 and 4.
This year, I lost the first two games in the G100+10 January Swiss OTB. The third game, I had to take a half-point Bye, and I lost my fourth game.
What you're seeing here is my first game in this year's January Swiss.
In total, I have played seven tournament games in classical G100+10 and one untimed casual against a 1945 (I lost against him)
Also, my phone engine (Komodo) seems to give me inconsistent evaluation vs my computer Stockfish.
