Hou Yifan plays the Fool's mate. Resigns after move 5 in 2017 Gibraltar Masters.

Dudes, are you mentally ill?
Who cares if they are women or not, look at their ratings, they are strong, geez, are you playing the board or the opponent?

I understand only 20% of the field were women, so getting 7 out of 10 female pairings (7 out of the first 9) is very strange. Somebody compute the odds of that happening.
Her first four opponents were women and then in the fifth round she got compared with a man, but in that round she was the ONLY woman at 3.5.
Definitely head-scratching. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but this does kind of smell.
To make it semi accurate you'd want to know how many men and women were at the same score as her after each round.
Then also include who was due white or black, and what the ratings were.

good for her
In what way exactly? Please elaborate...
If women usually don't stand up for themselves, then it's heartening to see a woman stand up for her belief no matter if she's right or wrong.
Then, feeling good about it for personal reasons might cause the observer to reflexively offer congratulations.
That's how I read it.

They were talking about re-running the pairings through Swiss Manager to verify them. I wonder if they've done it yet. Of course, it's even possible the pairing program was hacked or misused.

These people are not exactly settling their results by dice rolls, so any talk of probability is largely irrelevant. The relative results do matter, so if she actually won the higher rated matchups her fortunes would have been very different. Her compatriot was able to overperform and beat 4 2600s (including herself), so gender should be the least of her concerns.

We should be concerned if someone violated FIDE pairing rules, especially in a systematic way. The rules exist to ensure impartiality and fairness.

Plenty of women stand up for their beliefs. Many have given their lives for causes they believe in. How is it heartening to see a woman stand up for her beliefs, if her beliefs are wrong? Her allegations are unfounded and without any evidence. Shame on all of you defending her.
"Plenty" and "many" aren't necessarily a majority. Also it doesn't have to be factually a minority, it only has to be perceived as a minority to cause an observer to cheer her on with visions of standing up to oppression.
How is it heartening if her beliefs are wrong? They ignore the part about her being wrong of course!

And you can prove that someone violated FIDE pairing rules can you? Until then you have nothing to be concerned about.
Someone has to raise the concern first before it can be looked into. Good for Hou Yifan to raise the concern in a way that commands attention and ensures that it'll be looked into.

Ok, but if she's completely wrong then negative consequences would not be inappropriate. Probably nothing will happen to her in any case, but for example if she wasn't invited to the next one.

The most shameful thing on here was your whining about "women and their illogical emotions" and "female chess players whining all the time." Really. Shame on you.

dont make a big deal out of this.
It was just the last round of an open tournament. Where for many Players it doesnt matter anymore. It has no influence in prize Money or anything. For many Players the tournament is over at that Point. Some are frustrated. so they Play the last round just to finish and go home.
in that sense her game was actually funny. I Kind of feel sorry for her.
Obviosly she was angry about the Tournament. What ever it was. And she over reacted. but atleast it was honest.
But to People who make a big deal of it, it s like for example in a Marathon or a bycycle race or something like that. Where ist doesnt matter anymore if you are rank 50 or 60 at the end. Nobody would blame People who drop out or give up. or didnt run fast anymore.
so i have no strong emotions about that hou yifan incident.

The main problem is her blatant disregard for the other women players, even when they actually outperformed her.

But at least there is evidence of Yifan's whining. We have yet to see if there is any evidence of someone tampering with the pairings. Which would be a serious issue if that was the case.
Can you think of any reason the organisers would mess about with the pairings?
I'm not saying it's rigged. I just see it from her perspective. In the first round, either of them could have played Atousa, and it went to Yifan. And from there on she's played over 3 times as many women as her male counterpart. Computers are doing the pairings. But there's nothing stopping an organizer from switching an opponent.
There is something stopping organizers from switching opponents. It's the strict pairing laws and the fact that pairings can be checked afterwards in case of suspicions.

Getting 7/10 female opponents as a female at GibChess is extremely unlikely, or at any chess tournament. I recall Yifan was paired against Polgar as well at GibChess. I can see how getting paired against females in at least most opportunities may suggest pairings manipulation. There are big female prizes given away at GibChess, definitely the biggest of any open tournament, so there is some incentive to create feature matches.
