When you watch games online, you can often see Houdini analysis. I think people get used to one program and stick with it. If I am on a computer I need a program installed, I just install the one I can get my hands onto the quickest and will run straight out of the box without much tinkering.
I guess, no gm can beat these engines though
One thing, why are people buying Houdini instead of a free open source chess engine like Stockfish? I also saw that Stockfish has beaten Houdini in chess games and some of them were really brilliant and smart moves. The only better chess engine than Stockfish is Komodo which wrecked both Houdini and Stockfish. But Komodo is at a more affordable price and it can come with a three month ICC membership also, lol.
