4 me, the best basic opening is:

1.e4\e3            ?

2.b4\b3            ?

It is giving u a chance 2 develop all your biship`s and knights and finally giving u a chance 2 castle.It can be very usefull because if u r still in your opening and your opponet is in his/her middel game u will have trouble beating him/her to there end game and finally winnig

Why not 2...d5 for black? 

then black will porbily lose a move because pawn take pawn Qd5 Nc3 and he will retreat and won`t give him a good positoin and ends up losing a move
