How are opponents determined?

To start off I know I'm terrible at the game. Mostly I play 5 min blitz my current rating is 827. I recently created an alt account to try out specific openings a bunch of times knowing that it could be terrible and lower my rating further. I have played a total of around 85 games on the other account and my rating is already at 1000 and the gain/loss has been at around 8 and 7 respectively for awhile. So I figured let's go back and play on this account since I have improved and play the same openings. No improvement, the opponents I face on this account play "better" than on my other account and my rating shows it. So are opponents for newer accounts selected to be easier to get you hooked?

That does fit with people who say that all of a sudden their rating has dropped 300 points and their opponents now are better than what they were playing earlier.
