How are we ever going to beat Magnus Carlsen

Sort:
Twobit

Draw it will be (Yoda)

ChessMarkstheSpot

Most likely, both positions will surely be even..or we'll just give up lol

redhand

i had the chance to play (lose to) carlsen about 18 months ago on another well known chess websitebut thinking it was a joke i ignored him lol.it turned out it WAS him.he had won 6 out of 6 in short order and on his profile-when asked for his profession-he had put STUDENT lol.his first move was 1c4.regretted it ever since.

Without the expert analysis of guys like Ouachita

Plenty of alternatives available right now. Ouachita even had a pretty weak computer, nothing too special.

heinzie

I think we simply don't have what it takes. "Team of experts selected by Kasparov" Ha-ha.

heinzie

Who on here has prepared a finetuned database of Carlsen games?

Anyway, yes, we are doomed without Ouachita's genius insight with comments like "this is better" and "black fairs 2% better in this line". Nakamura and the others don't even come close to that kind of deep chess knowledge.

I believe 'chita once even typed "beep," quite unawares.

The problem with Vote Chess games against titled players is so many members sign up, check the position when alerted, and make whatever move strikes their fancy with little analysis and no attention to the group discussion.  At one point we labelled them "drive-by voters" and they have a strong effect, enough to derail any serious attempt at a consultation game.

For most moves, the outcome will be decided before the assisting GMs have even posted their suggestions.

I feel the same way about this too.

You are exactly right, a GM could make a vote for the best move but his vote would get cancelled out by some moron voting for a bad move.

VLaurenT

He is NOT going to open 1.e4, because all 3 GMs play the Sicilian, but he will try to split the vote, so I guess either 1.c4 or 1.d4

I wouldn't be surprised if we get some difficult King's Indian on the board... Smile

WoW looking back at this forum I laugh at all the people who thought we would win...he was fantastic and he made the world look awful.

ilikeflags

Dembo could beat him, even without wikipedia

ivandh

It might have been a little overconfident of us to play the Bongcloud

WilliamIofEngland

So much has happened since the last post 2nd Oct 2010

He's easy to beat when he pulls out of tournaments

ivandh

I knew the Bongcloud would triumph in the end!

WilliamIofEngland

WTF is Bongcloud anyway?

ivandh

The Bongcloud. Remember, its not about winning or loseing, its about ghetting your king to the other side man.
