How big is Magnus Carlsen's ego?

You keep saying you don't care about my opinion and then go on and on about it. You care more about my opnion than I do and now you think you're my psychoanalyst as well.

In the context of what Magnus posted on reddit, my thread is tame and someone with a good sense of humor might even find it humorous or entertaining, and some of the replies illustrate that. That's thee effect I was going for. Nothing too serious. No harm, no foul.

For all you know, Magnus would think it was funny and thus deflate all of your huffing and puffing about it, and say something  like, "Hell yeah, I think I'm great, you have to to win!" or something,  and I wouldn't think the lesser of him for it.  And everyone who feels that I ruthlessly mocked their sacred cow, have probably mocked their share of other people's sacred cows as well.  Because that's how it usually goes in these things.

My intention was not to seriously belittle or offend or marr the repuation of anyone, but share some laughs about what was arguably an egotistical *sounding* thing he posted on reddit. I don't think saying somone has a big ego is the same thing as saying they are all the really insulting things you used in your own metaphors. You seem to have far more sinister intentions.

Now you're imagining Magnus getting a chuckle from you.  How cute.

Personally you be a little too hyperbolic for my taste.

Yeah, I assume he could laugh at himself a little, if someone asked if he had a big ego, after he posted that.  If you want to cry in your cereal 'doppelgangster' and keep telling me what an evil guy I am, knock yourself out. I'm getting bored.

doppelgangsterII

That's what I mean by you being hyperbolic.

Did I call you evil?   Earlier people were "ruthlessly" attacking you.  Did you mean to say "boring"?

Link? I said people were ruthlessly attacking me? Huh? When?

You keep failing to demonstrate this great boredom you have with me as you continue to harangue me.  Why don't you find your own thread? Make one of your own and impress us all. I'm going to have to start charging you for therapy pretty soon.

Or typo.

You're welcome to send it to me. I always enjoy foul language.

And, no TK and Kay, I don't mean 'chicken'. Laughing

A Freudian slip is when you say one thing but mean your mother.

It could be anything that lingers in the subconscious, not only your mother. Perhaps that feel you have for your piano teacher ;-)

You have something for your piano teacher?

He's fine. I thought the reddit statement was a little egotistical sounding and it startled me. But I'm a Carlsen fan, personally. I was just trying to have some fun in the spirit of some who replied to the OP earlier in the thread. I was not trying to seriously belittle Magnus or detract from him in any way. Even if he had a big ego like Mohammad Ali did, I would still respect and admire him. Whether he does or doesn't, he certainly plays it cool enough.

Darth_Algar

Egotistical? It was a statement of fact. He is the world champion, and he is the highest rated player ever. Might have been egotistical if he claimed to be the best player ever (something which people can argue all day, but can't really be quantified), but he didn't do that. He simply stated two pertinent facts.

Yes, factual, but still, not a typical introduction.  It would be like a scientist walking into a room and saying, "I have 3 Ph.D.s and have won two nobel prizes and drive a Ferrari.  If you have any questions, I'll be having dinner at the Science Fair next door".  :-)  That's hyperbole, but, it was just not your typical reddit intro. You can see that right?

No, it isn't like that at all. Especially the inane bits about the Ferrari. And yeah, it was a pretty typical Reddit intro. He states who he is, and what his credentials are.

I know. That's why I said "hyperbole" and ":-)" Anyway, I'm not going to keep trying to defend what was not meant as any kind of serious attack. It was humorous. Personally I respect his abilities and don't care how much of an ego he has. I'm fine with him whether he has a big ego like a pro-wrestler, or he has the detachment of Buddha. I think Mohammed Ali was awesome and he had a big ego and I'm sure would have zero problem with anyone pointing it out. And Carlsen is very mature in public. I know all of that.

The people who are so offended that I might try to have a little fun with his reddit introduction are taking themselves and the whole thing too seriously.  I mean, I could envision a whole Daily Show bit on it, or some late night host joking about it, with the guest themselves, all in good fun, and that's all it was meant as.

Knightly_News

OK, I updated the OP once again because people cannot seem to take this in the humorous sense it was posted in, or think accomplished people are above harmless fun.

eciruam

Mohammed Ali's "ego" was an act.
