How can I counter this move?

People use this trap against me very often. I am not sure how to counter it.

365chess shows this as the main line:

It looks like that takes several moves of memorization, though all the moves are nearly forced.

4...Bc5 is the 2nd most popular option, but it gets very tactical and to my eyes also ugly.

You can escape the position even earlier with...

3...Bc5

...or you can give up the Ruy Lopez altogether in favor of Petroff's Defense even earlier with...

2...Nf6

Use the Traxler Counter-Attack paired with a super amount of Becherovka

In response to the OP, 4...d5 is Black's best move.  The only other real option, 4...Bc5, is "dubious at best"!

After 4...d5 5.exd5, DO NOT TAKE BACK WITH THE KNIGHT!  5...Na5! 6.Bb5+ c6 7.dxc6 bxc6 is equal, but Black must know the theory.  White is not forced, for example, to move the Bishop, and could play 8.Qf3, using the pin of the c6-pawn to the Rook to tactically guard the Bishop.  That said, if Black truly knows what he's doing, he fully equalizes in this line!

This happens quite often, in blitz time controls.
