My guess; 'Pattern-recognition'.. 'trumps' {no pun intended}; Calculating 5 or more moves ahead; When it comes to '1-to-3' minute games! ..{esp. when seconds, are at a premium!}. 0:

No, it's the anti-cheating factor. Once you're at longer time controls online, people can start using engines. Very hard to do that at 1-min, and still pretty tough at 3mins.
