How come GMs are too snooty to post in the forums?

Also, if you check you the blogs, you'll find many masters who make good, instructive posts. Not stuff about "being GM in a month" or "why is Be3 better than Bb2" (when one move hangs a pawn, and the other doesn't), but for example the latest blog post I see is from an IM, about finding good moves quickly.

GM Hansen used to post here pretty frequently, but other than that, it's as you say, urk.
Maybe, because as GM Hansen found out, they get bombarded with requests for game analyses, free lessons, challenges.
My guess on seeing the topic title was the same thing. When Anatoly Lein and Leonid Shamkovich defected from the Soviet Union to the USA in the '70's, I happened to play in a lower section of a tournament they were in, the same month their pictures were on the cover of Chess Life and I managed to get their autographs on my copy.
They both were new to USCF chess tournaments and, between games, spent a lot of time with some of us lower-ranked players, doing impromptu lessons and analyses. But the jerks in the crowd would make insulting comments, argue, etc. and by the third round those two GM's were nowhere to be seen after their games.

there was a time when these questions didnt need to be asked because the answer was so obvious.
given the current blip in evolution where human brains have shrunk in size over the last couple of years, this may be the right time to answer this question.
Grandmasters have to prepare a lot for tournaments so they spend time in the gym to firm up the buttocks for sitting down for many hours during games, they do bench presses to build arm muscles for when their time is really low on the clock and they have to blitz out their moves, they need some R+R, so they catch a few flicks like Universal Soldier - Day Of Reckoning, then they need to play some footy and take their wives and girlfriends out.
The average forum poster only needs a couch smelling of dust and a can of Heineken.

"Why" dont GMs post here?
Such a great question with such an obvious answer. They would get flooded with "Teach me for free" "Can you analyze my game for me for free?" "I have a tournament this weekend. Can you help me prepare me for free?" "I want to be a GM. Can you give me some free advice?" "I want to learn the <insert opening here> can you teach me it for free?" "I suck at middlegame, can you teach me for free?" "I want to get better at endgames, can you teach me for free?" "Would you come to my school and put on a simul and lecture for free?" I dont know...maybe its just me...but there seems to be a pattern here.

I don't think strong GMs are being snooty... but for some reason I just thought of John Nash choosing to hallucinate Ed Harris every day, over watching time tick away, sitting on the porch like a mutton head (a reference to the movie A Beautiful Mind).
Too good to communicate with us patzers?
Too busy asking the Stockfish engine for the latest refutation of the Najdorf Sicilian?
Drop us a line, brah........
Take one good look at the "quality" of the average post here and you might be able to answer your own question.
also:
-they got a life
-they got a job

Actually, I know an unemployed 2700. But he sure as hell doesn't post in here.
I still think that if the average player rated that high started hallucinating and pasting strips of paper all over his house, and that if a medication was found that made that stop, but that he had to be like you guys and post in the forums, that he would go off his medication and just be insane.

employers check whether you have posted on chess.com as part of their background check. it's never a positive thing ...
.. Surely, you've heard of 'posting' under, an 'alias' handle ! .. Anyway.. I'm about to post, a 'cool' 'ice-skating' video, on 'Tom's, 'song' thread.. And, what 'GM' can't resist, watching a video, of a 'gal' with, an above-average-looking, 'face'; Great, {skating}, 'pairs' performance.. And, a Fantastic, b_tt ! ..{oops}.

Why would they invite hundreds of pm from some kid wanting an autographed picture, or from self proclaimed semi pros or experts dissecting their games or advice? I imagine if they do visit the forums under different names, they just troll and have a good laugh. Most likely they pop in for a game, if anything and leave the forums to the typists.

trust me dude. gms post here just under a fake name and persona
2Q1C and how would you know that? Maybe PM me the GM and alias names.

This explains my job hunt.

Most high level professional people are not interested at all spending their time in amateur forums.
Why should they do that?
They would encounter many trolls, haters, dumbasses, people asking for free help, people asking stupid questions etc.
And not only that, they already dedicate so much time to their profession, so they are not willing to spend even more time talking about the same thing but now with amateurs.
Of course we would like to see GMs post more often, but I can perfectly understand why they would not do that.
BTW let's be honest, how many threads here would be really interesting for them?
