How come I'm better as black?

Just a strange one re. correspondance chess. I haven't played many games on here so far only been a member recently, but as black I've won every game pretty comfortably (7/7), and as white I have mixed results losing far more than I win (won 1/4!), opposition level in general is harder when I'm black too! Majority of games in past and when younger, I've never enjoyed playing black, I've never studied openings, only discovered its sicilian I've been playing after reading on here! I'd say 90% of my practice time against the PC I play as white.

So, how does that work?!

The sample is small, but it seems you do have a tendency to earn a 0-1 result.  I can't offer an explanation but I can offer you this:

If the Sicilian is good for you as black, then maybe the English (1 c4) would be good for you as white.

Cheers will try that next time. I've only ever used d4 or e4 before!

As white try aiming for semi-open games or games with a similar pawn structure as already suggested i.e. opening with 1.c4 (and hoping your opponent throws in d5 at some point ;)

I wouldn't say, or know enough about chess to say, I'm better as black or white, but at the moment I prefer playing black.

Just like to say thanks for your suggestion, been playing c4 when white and its seen me through the 1700 barrier. I've done a fair bit of reading in to it, and now feel a bit more confident when playing as white, rather than the 'what the hell do I do now' feeling I get at around move 6.

The sicilian is still serving me well too!
