How do I actually get the PGN of a game?

I've been ignoring it for quite some time, but due to this update, I haven't been able to get a PGN of any of my games for about a full year.

About a year ago (I'm not sure exactly when), chess.com made it so that when you click to get your PGN, rather than opening a file that you can simply copy and paste, it makes you download something. When I download it, it doesn't let me open the file. It comes up with a message that says something like "would you like to search the web for an appropriate program?".

I really don't know how to get a PGN of any of my games and it is very time-consuming to have to enter about 50+ moves per game in if I want to show it to someone.

So how do I get the PGN of a game? Please explain in a step-by-step procedure.

Do you have a program like Chessbase to open the pgn files?

You need a database program or something to open it.

Theres some free ones out there like SCID, Arena, and stuff. I personally never tried them since I have CB 11 but people keep talking about those around here so they seem good...

When it asks what you want to open it with, click "Select program from a list" and then click Notepad.  If you want to open it in Notepad every time, make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file." is checked.

After you do that you can simply double click the PGN's and then copy the text from Notepad and paste to wherever.

Okay I'll see if that works...

Yay it works! Thank you!
