how do I arrange to play chess games against prison inmates?

We also have a tremendous number of mentally ill people in our prisons, who are not receiving any treatment, same as the drug people. Because we think the way to get at them is to make life miserable, further ruining their mental states. But "they deserve it."

lol, yes, if you wanted to something nice for them you might do it, but it's not like they deserve it anyway.

Who are you to say what other people deserve and don't deserve? It is possible that some of those inmates did something morally or legally wrong because their sin/crime served some higher good. Perhaps they stole because they needed money to feed their families. Perhaps they attacked in self-defense. Perhaps they did drugs because they were psychologically broken. Perhaps they got caught attempting to board a plane with a revoked passport!

Lol, come on.

Sure. But can you explain why it's so easy to dislike me? Is it because I don't go around hating and condemning people? What's wrong with humanistic/judeo-christian values? You don't believe in those things?

it's great that that's what you're calling this.  and nobody cheats either.

Just don't drop the pawn.

What are you getting at?

Taken in the context of your other statements it sounds rather like you believe your laws and justice system infallible... and every prisoner to be evil.

Personally I believe there are huge numbers of people in prison who shouldn't be there and engaging them in something like a game of chess is a kind and noble deed.

And if someone invites you to "castle long," consider before saying yes.

Not infallible of course, but yeah I think it's pretty good. You need a lot of evidence for a person to be put in prison, the decision is made very carefully, often even when things seem obvious.

I think few people are there that shouldn't be, and I don't think they have been doing it for the greater good. If they have that's stupid.

Unfortunately there has to be some people who are in jail their whole lives when they shouldn't (but the murderers that are completely deserve it; if you take someone's life unexpectedly why should you even have a chance to make up for it? The people killed had no chance to finish life.); there are also kids that starve to death, life can be really unfair. But our justice system is about as just as it can get.

I don't think there is a whole lot of people who committed a crime for the greater good. But there are many people who are not evil, at least not when they go in.

it just such a lame thread...  are you really asking HOW a person goes about arranging games with people in prison or are you jus trying to convince us that you're the type of guy that cares so much about the human race?  here's how--call a prison.  that was easy.  now let's hear more about how humaistic you are and how jesus is your co-pilot.

Those are like the two most opposite things you can have. Judeo-Christians want to have a monopoly on being nice to others which is why they hate humanists so much.

i could kiss you for this post.  i would kiss you for this post.  on the mouth!

I agree with Schachgeek. Don't give them your home address. You seem a bit naive.

People are not picked to serve as jurors because they seem intelligent... they are usually picked because they either seem stupid and maleable or stupid and opinionated... and they are the ones who get to play judge and say guilty or not guilty. So while I think that most people in prison are there for a legitimate reason, I don't have as much blind faith on the system as you do.

and he got that all from watching Law and Order.

I didn't say I wanted to play correspondence chess with prison inmates, did I? I think it's obvious that I am talking about playing OTB games with prisoners, like I've heard some college kids do.

electricpawn

I served on a jury. I was foreman of the jury in a personal injury case. I don't appreciate being called stupid by some dim witted sad sack who thinks its a good idea to seek out con men and violent thugs to play with. Yeah, I said it.
