Title. Is it worth sticking to it as I played it most of the time?

No one at your level knows how to play openings. And the one game where you played the KID all you did was make moves made from memory. You had no understanding of the position, and hung material. You lost in 17 moves and still had 6:10 left on the clock.

Follow opening principles and youll do fine.

I personally don't understand the logic of playing an opening that's way above my skill level to understand....

I've seen the logic where people say two novice just cancels each other out.. I disagree.... I prefer not to guess on how to play an opening. I also don't want to play an opening that if I double my ELO .. its still too complicated for me to understand.

I play fairly straight forward openings with pretty clear plans (in the middle and endgame) My opponents complicated things enough... Playing an opening because top shelf GMs play it, (The KID, Ruy Lopez, Sicilian Nadjorf etc) or not playing an opening because people refer to it as a beginners or club opening (The London, the Colle, the Center Game, the Giuoco Piano ect ) Guessing because I don't really understand how to play an opening .... Well that seems counter productive...

Its the illusion of sounding like you know what youre doing without actually knowing what youre doing.

Its the same reason beginners and low rated players always pick the same openings like the Sicilian, and KID. All they do is memorize moves and have no understanding of why the moves are made.

Choices:

You can act like you know what youre doing.

You can actually know what youre doing.
