How do I develop my game as a positional player?

I am 14 years old and for the past year I played aggresively and highly tactically...But I struggled to break through the 1000 rating barrier with this style so I became more universal (positional). I managed to reach 1108 for now, but how can I improve further? P

For now, I have to agree with the other posters that you should concentrate heavily on tactics. Positional play is great, but it always takes a back seat to the tactical realities of the position.

However, as you continue to study tactics heavily, might I recommend three books: "Winning Chess Strategies" by Seirawan, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chess" by Wolff, and "The Amateur's Mind" by Silman. All three will give you fine grounding in positional play.

Also, on this website FOR FREE, study the recent articles by Silman on his favorite games. I believe there are 12 or 13 so far. He is a huge proponent of positional play, and his analysis of these games is a gold mine.

After that, if your brain hasn't exploded yet, look at some of the great games by Rubinstein and Karpov on chessgames.com. They are two of many great positional players from  whom you may learn a lot.

Actually, they work hand-in-hand.

However, you cannot effectively use one without the other. You often need tactics to improve your position and you just as often need to create a good position to activate some useful tactics.

WIthout either one, you are playing less than 1/2 of your game.
